Designed by a speech-language pathologist for preschool-age children, Get the Set is a developmental game that is a terrific way for children to learn to recognize and categorize objects. Correctly identifying and grouping objects is an important skill that assists children in developing a greater understanding of characteristics and attributes, as well as building vocabulary.
A set of three objects in the same category will be shown first. Then, four additional objects, one of which also belongs to the same category as the first three, will be shown, and the child will be prompted to find the one that belongs with the first three, to complete the set. Large, easy-to-read captions can be read aloud by a parent or therapist using the app together with the child, and also encourage learning to read.
Over fifty different items are included, within the following groups: animals, plants, insects, fruit, vegetables, clothing, furniture, musical instruments, toys and transportation. You can turn on any combination of groups to work with.
Exceptionally good visual design makes this app a pleasure to use. For correct answers, the app provides natural reinforcements, consisting of over forty different sounds corresponding to each object category, as well as animations.
Get the Set keeps score of rounds played and percentage correct. There are two levels of difficulty: easy, where the target object is mixed with completely random objects, and hard, where the target object is mixed with objects from related categories.
